Tagging people on Facebook

I have written a few texts about my likes and dislikes (sic) on Facebook by now (text 1, text 2, text 3, text 4, text 5). Today I want to share another major issue I have noticed but never tackled on my blog so far.

Most of my readers have a Facebook account, I am sure. Most of us enjoy sharing music, photos, notes, jokes or simple thoughts on Facebook. What I personally don’t enjoy is being tagged by people in their photos, ads, notes or other personal stuff they want to share with the world. I was tagged in pics of people who went to parties I never attended, I was tagged by people I don’t even know personally, but merely share some music interest or something. Recently, I have been tagged in bad quality photos I totally dislike. And as the photos you are tagged in immediately become part of your profile and are displayed right under your name (for the ones who use the new profile), I cannot tell you how funny it feels to notice I have new “someone else’s pics” on my profile every day! I know I have the option to stop people from tagging me, but I have chosen to appeal to people’s common sense, not to play God on Facebook.

Now, what is the reason people do that? I guess it was my mistake in the first place. I have stated my interests on Facebook, details about what I do and I frequently post links to music I promote. Well, dear Facebook friends, that is not a reason for you to spam my page and tag me in pics that have nothing to do with me! I promise to all of you I have never done that to anyone, and I never will. So, please, let me decide what images define me, what texts I like, and what notes I want to read. That is the main purpose of Facebook, isn’t it?

One of the things I dislike the most on Facebook is, like you, getting tagged in irrelevant photos, especially I am not even in the photo.

The only exception where I don’t mind is if it is an event that me and a handful of friends are taking part in. For example, a bonfire, or something personal.

I really enjoyed this post and am glad I am not the only one that feels the same way!

There are a lot of nice and decent people on the www. I know that my close friends are very respectful and they never abuse other people online. Being tagged about people in pics that don’t even have your face in them is weird. Almost creepy! You start thinking why would anyone do that when you don’t even know them well??? Cheers and thanks for passing by.
