Butter potatoes

There are so many ways to cook potatoes. My sweet daughter likes them fried or simply boiled with butter and parsley. Today I am going to tell you how you can make the nicest garnish for chicken in the fastest way possible. The only secret is to sprinkle a little more salt than usual. 

My daughter loves my cooking and I love cooking for her. A match made in heaven! I noticed that she appreciates my small arrangements and little cute shape and color games, so I went for a new vegetables and meat mix for her. Easy to make and splendid. Check it out!

Coffee boiled in a pot (granny TM)

Another recipe that makes me remember my childhood… Sunday mornings in Ceausescu’s time, my granny waking up at 7 and making coffee boiled in a pot, the smell taking over the entire home >D<. I remember her ritual of making the coffee, with the pot, the stirring and the sugar and the cooling down before you pour it in the cups…Those wonderful moments will stay in my heart forever. Here is her recipe:

Ingredients: water (100 or 200 ml), cardamon/hell (1 pod), sugar (1 or 2 teaspoons), ground coffee (1.5 or 3 teaspoons)

Yield: 2 servings.

Time: 10 – 15 min.


I boil the water (low heat) in a special coffee pot. I add the sugar. I stir.

We had guests a few nights ago, so I decided to cook something really appealing for 3 young adolescents :). My daughter warned me about the fact that one of the young ladies liked chicken legs and the other one liked chicken breast more. So, I went for a whole chicken on a nice vegetable bed. Here is the recipe!

Ingredients: 1 good looking whole chicken, 5 potatoes, 3 onions, bacon (200 g), basil (2 teaspoons), zest of 1 lemon, olive oil (5 tablespoons), salt, water (3 cups)

Mucenici (Muntenia)

Today we celebrate the Orthodox “40 Mucenici” (40 martyrs) in Romania, and as the tradition requires, we make a sweet soup with cinnamon, nuts and dough in the shape of 8’s.

For as long as I remember, my granny would prepare the dough in the shape of small 8’s on the night before (March 8), and then boil the Mucenici soup on March 9. The smell of cinnamon and lemon peel granny used for the Mucenici still gives me such a warm feeling…

Legend: On March 9, the Orthodox celebrate the sacrifice of the 40 saints from Sebaste who died for their faith in Jesus. Around 320 a.c., 40 soldiers were captured and asked to give up their Christian faith. They refused. They were forced to get into a frozen lake, and the legend says that they started praying to God to save them. While the martyrs were drowning, 40 little flower garlands emerged to the surface. Hence the shape of the mucenici. The similarity goes even further, as the mucenici raise to the surface of the soup when you cook them :). The soup we cook in Muntenia is a symbol of the lake the saints drowned in (when you add the crushed nuts, sugar and cinnamon it resembles a frozen lake).

My sweet daughter does not like heavy dinners. She likes good looking vegetable and meat mixes, chicken, no fish, and, unfortunately, some junk food. So I always make an effort to talk her into eating healthy dinners :). This is one:

Ingredients: 4 slices of lemon, lettuce (50 g), toast (2 slices), ham (3 thin slices), tomato (4 cherry, cut in halves), cucumber (4 slices), olive oil, salt
